Breast Cancer Awareness Month https://southwestsurgical.com/breast-cancer-awareness-month/ Sun, 08 Oct 2023 12:08:34 +0000 https://demo.goodlayers.com/attorna/?p=6434
Dr. Arlene Ricardo's message regarding breast cancer awareness month.

As we embrace the beauty of autumn, it’s also a perfect time to embrace something just as important – your breast health.

The key to a successful fight against breast cancer lies in early detection. While breast cancer primarily affects women, it is crucial for men to join the fight by supporting and encouraging the women in their lives to prioritize their well-being. We can all contribute to raising awareness and ensuring that our loved ones prioritize their breast health.

Regular mammograms play a pivotal role in identifying any potential issues before they become a more significant concern. By scheduling your mammogram as recommended, you are taking a proactive step in safeguarding your health. I encourage you to prioritize your well-being and follow the American College of Radiology® breast cancer screening guidelines.

The American College of Radiology’s recommends that all women talk with their doctor about your breast cancer risk by age 25 and ask:

  • If you should get a mammogram before age 40.
  • If you need other tests – like an MRI – with your yearly mammogram.
  • Or – if you are at high risk, should you be checked more than once per year.

In addition to finding breast cancer early with annual mammograms, women can stay well by helping reduce their breast cancer risk by making healthy lifestyle choices such as staying at a healthy weight, getting regular exercise, and limiting their alcohol intake. If you have not had a mammogram in the past year, I strongly encourage you to make an appointment.

Your health matters, and together, we can work towards a healthier, brighter future. Let’s unite in the fight against breast cancer and encourage our loved ones to do the same.

With warmth and care,

Arlene Ricardo, MD
